The Panel reports independently to Drinkaware's Board of Trustees and the Chief Medical Advisor who chairs the Panel attends Board meetings in an observer role. 

The Panel comprises experts in the areas of general practice, liver disease, mental health, oral cancer, violence and facial injury and draws upon expertise from other medical specialists as required. The Panel is responsible for providing a strategic overview for our medical evidence to the Board of Trustees and for reviewing all website content, factsheet information and communications for accuracy.

The members of the Medical Advisory Panel are:  

Professor Paul Wallace

The Panel is led and chaired by respected epidemiologist, Professor Paul Wallace. Professor Wallace is Clinical Director of the NIHR Primary Care Network, emeritus Professor of Primary Care, a retired GP and Chief Medical Advisor to Drinkaware.

Professor Jonathan Chick

Consultant Psychiatrist; Honorary Professor, Faculty of Health, Life & Social Sciences, Edinburgh Napier University; Medical Director, Castle Craig Hospital, Scotland.

Dr Sarah Jarvis

Inner city London GP, Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, clinical consultant to, published author and broadcaster.

Professor Graham Ogden

Head of Oral & Maxillofacial Clinical Sciences within the University of Dundee dental hospital & school, Dean Elect for the Dental Faculty and Honorary Consultant Oral Surgeon NHS Tayside.

Iona Lidington

Associate Director of Public Health within Royal Borough of Kingston.




Dr Lynn Owens

Professor Chris Day (Associate MAP member) 

Pro-Vice Chancellor and Professor of Liver Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University, Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and Senior National Institute for Health Research Investigator.

Professor Stephen Neidle

Emeritus Professor at University College London and Cancer Research UK Professorial Fellow. Previously Professor and Academic Dean at the Institute of Cancer Research. Currently running research programmes in cancer and anti-infective drug discovery.
