Background

This report presents some of the findings from research conducted by YouGov in March-April 2017, into UK adults’ behaviour and attitudes in relation to alcohol. The larger findings will be published in the Drinkaware Monitor 2017 in late 2017.

Key Findings

Just under half (47.3%) of men between 35 and 75 who drink alcohol do so to conform. This includes choosing one or more of the following motivations to drink:

  • To fit in
  • To be liked
  • To not feel left out

Nearly half (49.1%) of men who drink due to social pressures do so at harmful levels
