What we do
Drinkaware works with individuals, communities, industry, and governments to reduce alcohol harm across the UK.
Drinkaware is the UK’s leading alcohol charity. We work closely with industry, governments, communities, and individuals to reduce alcohol harm in the UK.
Our 2026-2030 strategy builds on two decades of impact in alcohol education, prevention and early intervention. Developed in partnership with industry and stakeholders, the strategy reflects both strong progress in reducing alcohol harm and the scale of the challenge that remains.
Delivery of our strategy centers on evidence-led campaigns, digital tools and community interventions, underpinned by Drinkaware’s core strength in convening partners across sectors to drive collective action and shift cultural norms around alcohol.
Drinkaware’s vision is working together to reduce alcohol harm across the UK.
Our mission is to use our expertise to give knowledge and support to governments, industry, communities and individuals to enable them to make informed decisions about alcohol and how to reduce the harm it can cause.
Everything we do at Drinkaware is underpinned by our values. We demonstrate:
Our 2026-2030 strategy identifies three external goals:
1. Reinforcing moderation as the cultural norm, making it an easier choice for more people
We will achieve this by:
Delivering national behaviour change campaigns featuring positive role models
Raising awareness of moderation techniques
Sharing evidence and insights into UK drinking trends
2. Providing people with the guidance and support they need to cut back
We will achieve this by:
Developing digital tools and services for increasing risk drinkers
Supporting local neighbourhoods with targeted community interventions
Providing advice and resources for partners and supporters, including a shared resource hub
3. Working together to influence and accelerate shifts in moderation
We will achieve this by:
Supporting partners to implement best practice that supports moderation
Sharing alcohol-related insight, data and evidence with the public, industry, media and government
Acting as an inclusive convener, championing the voices of people and communities we support
We know we cannot achieve these goals alone. We are committed to working in partnership with governments and organisations across all four UK nations, from the alcohol industry to academics and researchers, to drive the change we want to see.
Over the last three years, 1.8 million people have completed our Drinking Check, with 51% reporting positive behaviour change within 4–6 weeks, such as reducing consumption or increasing drink-free days. Overall, 21% of UK adults have seen or heard information about the health risks of alcohol from us in the past year, second only to the NHS (27%).
