“This report highlights a worrying lack of public awareness of the risks and range of harms – such as cancer – that drinking alcohol can have. It underlines the need for more transparent information so that people can make better choices.

“Our own research1 also shows how the majority of people do not associate drinking with cancer, along with other health issues such as coronary heart disease and weight gain.

“As part of a new campaign to help people understand the risks of drinking, we will be developing a series of short videos in the summer that will show how alcohol can affect our health.”
