Drinkaware, the UK’s most recognised alcohol awareness charity, has appointed three new trustees to complement the existing Board of Trustees in mapping out the organisation’s strategic direction and to continue to drive the charity forward in its mission to reduce alcohol misuse.

Mark Hunter, Ted Tuppen CBE and Helen Humpreys will join the Board, which comprises an equal number of trustees from the alcohol industry and from the medical/public health community, with a further three independent trustees.

Mark Hunter is Chief Executive Officer of Molson Coors Brewing Company (UK) Limited.  He has previously worked for Molson in Canada, Bulmers Drinks and Bass Brewers Ltd in a marketing capacity.  Mark is Vice Chairman and a Board Director of the BBPA (British Beer and Pub Association), a member of the Portman Group Council and President of the ISBA (Incorporated Society of British Advertisers).

Ted Tuppen CBE is Chief Executive of Enterprise Inns plc, the leading specialist operator of 7,100 leased and tenanted pubs in the UK.  Ted is Vice President, and former Chairman, of the British Beer and Pub Association and in 2006 was awarded a CBE for his contribution to the hospitality industry.

Helen Humpreys is Director and Founder of Acorn Communication Consultancy advising global clients on strategic communication, major change programmes, and issues management.  She was previously Director of Communication at United Biscuits and has extensive experience in the financial services sector.

In 2009 Drinkaware received a boost in annual funding to more than £5 million for three years, marking a major commitment from more than 50 alcohol-related companies to tackling alcohol misuse.  The funding, coupled with an updated Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Health, the alcohol industry and The Drinkaware Trust*, reinforced the principle that reducing alcohol misuse is everyone’s responsibility and in everyone’s interest.  The Drinkaware Board ensures that Drinkaware provides a high return on industry investment, by bringing together skills and expertise from various fields.

Derek Lewis, Chairman of Drinkaware says:
“We are very pleased to welcome our new trustees to the Drinkaware Board.  The broad expertise and experience they bring will further enhance our effectiveness in a critically important national task.  We are privileged to have the benefit of such a talented team.”
