Project: Alcohol Awareness Project

Region: London - Newham

Amount approved: £2,473

The Asian Social and Humanitarian Association (ASHA) provides a range of services for disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, predominantly from the local Bangladeshi/Muslim community in Newham.

Funding will allow ASHA to deliver a 15-week project tackling alcohol issues head-on in the community and improving the alcohol awareness of young people and their families.  ASHA will use games, quizzes, videos and resources like the Intensive Plus learning tool.

Health, safety, the law, unit measures, resisting peer pressure, tips on cutting down and the harmful effects on relationships will be covered along with the physical repercussions, such as impaired vision and judgment.

ASHA will evaluate the work through post-project interviews with sample groups to gauge knowledge retention.  They hope to develop resources and a structure for future community and family focussed alcohol awareness worked based on the learning from this pilot.
