Project: Community Action - Blackburn (Changing Attitudes to Alcohol)
Region: Scotland and Blackburn, West Lothian
Amount approved: £20,000
Alcohol Focus Scotland (AFS) works to promote responsible drinking, reduce harm caused by alcohol and to change the culture around the use of alcohol.
Funding will enable the implementation of a range of actions arising from scoping work with the local community in Blackburn. This will include workshop programmes targeting hard to reach individuals, awareness raising and exploratory work with local schools and improving communications within the area, for example to increase awareness of the under age and agent purchasing framework.
The key principle of the project is sustainability, the aim of close community consultation at all stages is to ensure there will be community ownership and a commitment from all key stakeholders to continue to develop and drive the work forward past the end of initial funding. The work will be externally evaluated and AFS is participating in initiatives to share learning between this and other community-based work in Scotland focussing on alcohol issues.
