Since launching our new grants schemes in October 2008, we've had a fantastic response from projects across the UK with over 100 new applications and three times as many enquiries.

After detailed assessments of the projects our Board of Trustees have awarded 13 projects totalling over £265,000 - three under the Ideas Fund scheme, eight Awareness Projects and one Big Impact Award.  Successful projects include:

  • alcohol specific youth work in local communities including street outreach, accredited and unaccredited workshops
  • rolling out alcohol education materials developed with input from local young people to schools county-wide
  • trialling intensive approaches to theatre in education
  • The Big Impact Award to London Active Communities for the alcohol education element of their sports focussed youth inclusion work in partnership with Premiership Rugby.

Details of all funded projects are available from the links on left-hand side of this page.

Success is determined on how effective the work will be on raising awareness and educating the immediate beneficiary group, as well as the impact the work will have into the future. For example, will it be replicable in neighbouring areas or by other organisations and are there strong networks to support this or will it contribute to learning in the field?

All successful projects showed strong plans for monitoring and evaluation and would be building this into the work from the beginning. Projects receiving larger grants included elements of external evaluation by an independent party.
