Grants

Drinkaware grants support high engagement alcohol awareness raising, such as innovative  workshops, educational theatre, pilots, multi-agency educational partnerships and initiatives combining alcohol awareness with sport or other recreational activities.

It’s not enough to hit people with facts, however, projects must seek to increase those skills that will enable participants to make their own decisions, resist pressure from others or even help their peers.

Our funding schemes give local and national projects a fantastic chance to increase people’s understanding of alcohol and change their drinking habits. In doing this, such interventions really can make positive differences to people’s lives. This is your chance to be part of the solution.

We award Grants for any sum between £2,000 and £100,000, but they are only available to non-statutory, not-for-profit organisations. However, they may be working in any part of the UK and with any target group.

We urge applicants to give careful consideration to whether or not the grant they plan to request is in proportion to their size and turnover.

Lower end grants are ideal for localised projects which need initial support to work out an idea before expanding it and possibly applying for a larger award. Alternatively,  it could be put to good use on development work by higher capacity organisations, which aim to scope out what may in time become a larger scale alcohol awareness initiative.

As requested sums get larger, from £5,000 to £25,000 for example, we expect deliverers to be reaching a substantial number of individuals with a view to bringing about tangible change. It is at this point that we start looking for greater proven commitment to undertaking impactful, hands-on work with beneficiaries. At this level, we would also expect objectives concerning expansion, enhancement and long-term sustainability.

At £25-30,000 and above, projects must be able to guarantee that they will pack a more powerful punch or reach a wider audience. At this level, we want to fund creative, pioneering and effective projects, especially those that could have a national influence. This could be through a more complex initiative, such as a large scale partnership, simultaneous pilots around the UK  or the addition of a strong alcohol component to an already successful model. These projects should again have a strong element of direct work with individuals and the community.

The above categories are not rigid, and the list of example project types is not exhaustive, but they should  give you a rough idea of our expectations.
