Grants

Thank you for your interest in Drinkaware’s grant programme. Since its inception hundreds of grants have been given out to organisations across the UK reaching hundreds of thousands of people.  We have sponsored well-received and impactful theatre in education programmes; actions targeting communities such as Blackburn in Scotland, which may become a national model; and positive alternative programmes like the Scottish Sports Future’s Jump2It! initiative that is now being considered a ‘best practice’ sport and alcohol awareness model and being expanded to other countries in Europe. Each and every programme has sought to change our relationship with alcohol and to drive behaviour change.

Looking to the future, we have determined that the grants programme needs to evolve to better meet the needs of UK consumers.  Based on ever increasing amounts of research and evidence on which types of programmes deliver the best results, we will move to a more proactive approach. As of March 2012, Drinkaware will cease to award funding through the open application process it has operated to date. Instead, using the grant making model, we will post tendering opportunities for types of initiative that have shown real success in areas such as life-skills based education, social norming and behaviour change among others.

Once a specific project concept is identified, a set of criteria will be developed and be posted along with a pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ). Any interested not for profit organisation would then need to complete the PQQ to establish their eligibility to submit a tender.  Once eligibility has been confirmed and a tender submitted, it will be reviewed against the criteria and a final short list will be drawn up for discussion and possible presentation, if needed.

Further information will be available within this section of the Drinkaware website by the beginning of May. If the first tendering opportunity is not suitable to your organisation, please remember to revisit this section at regular intervals, as others may better match your current core work or aims for the future.

If you have submitted a bid to the previous scheme, in written or electronic form, by 5 March, it will be processed according to the former guidelines. If you have passed this deadline but have put considerable work into a bid, we apologise for the inconvenience an urge you to remember that your idea may yet be suitable for future tendering opportunities.

Should you wish to discuss the future programme further, please contact Andy Law, Drinkaware’s Grants Officer, by e-mailing Andy Law or calling 020 7766 9908.
