A 'Fresher Perspective' blog: no time for alcohol lately!

Introduction

Sophie will be giving a frank portrayal of university life and the role alcohol plays in it. This week Sophie can’t find enough time to drink but reckons that might change very soon...

It seems like since finishing for the year I’ve forgotten what alcohol tastes like.  My part time job has been bumped up to almost full time for the summer, so I’m finishing late and too tired to go out afterwards.  The only alcohol I’ve touched  recently is the pints I’m pulling!  A little touched my lips during the England Vs Germany match, but it didn’t go any further than that because I had to shoot off at the end of the appalling match to work.

My days off have been spent chasing the sunshine, including a trip to Brighton to lull about on the beach. I’m always driving about and never feel tempted to just have one, I don’t see the point in risking it. Not drinking hasn’t bothered me too much, I miss my friends more than drinking itself. Most work in the daytime so sometimes it’s hard to catch people other than in the pub.

However, I’m off to Menorca tomorrow (with the family, unlikely to drink there either), followed by jumping off the plane and driving straight to Latitude festival where I can imagine my staple diet will be some spirit or another for the weekend with the odd veggie burger thrown in.

Watching the Glastonbury footage on the TV got me in the mood for my weekend to come.  I’ve also booked my Italian-French travelling holiday.  Sadly I’ve had to sell my Reading ticket to fund this, plus student loan leftovers. So starting to today my relaxing begin!
