About ten million people in England drink above the guidelines.

Approximately ten million people in England drink above the government's daily unit guidelines.

Approximately ten million men and women in England are regularly drinking above the daily unit guideline levels of 3-4 units of alcohol for men and 2-3 units of alcohol for women. Forty per cent of men are more likely to exceed the daily unit guidelines, compared with 33 per cent of women.  Among men aged 25-44, 34 per cent reported drinking on average more than 21 units in a week. For women aged 25-44, 24 per cent drinking on average more than 14 units in a week.
