We recently held an alcohol education day for Topshop and Topman staff in the canteen of their flagship Oxford Street store.

Four members of our team went along to interact with their workforce about units and calories in alcohol through activities and face-to-face discussions.

Activities included getting people to pour what they conceived to be a standard measure of spirits or wine and then showing them how many units were in the amount they were pouring. From this they learnt the measures people often pour at home are far greater than 1 unit, and more often 4-5 units.

Beer goggles were also available for staff to try, which through special lenses simulated what happens to your eyesight when you are drunk. We also hired two exercise machines to show people how much exercise they would have to do to burn off the calories in alcoholic drinks.

Unit measure cups and unit calculators were handed out as well as tip cards and bottles of ‘Sparkling Wit’ mineral water from our ‘Why let good times go bad?’ campaign.

Around 150 people visited our stand throughout the day with many of them engaging with us to learn more about responsible drinking.
