Your evening out essentials

Introduction

Heading off to the pub, party or club tonight? Good times are guaranteed with these night out must haves.

No good night out ends with someone being sick or getting themselves into a potentially dangerous situation. Stop the likelihood of any of that happening by making sure you’ve all got…

Your mobiles

How did people manage a night out before mobile phones?

By keeping in contact by text, or making regular calls, you can guarantee that you and your mates all stay together and end up where the action is. Mobiles are also great for monitoring the movements of any loose cannons in your group, so you can check they’re OK and don’t leave the party alone. The last thing you want is one of your mates wandering around by themselves when they are at their most vulnerable.

Just make sure you remember to charge your mobile before you leave your house and check you’ve got enough credit if you’re on pay-as-you-go. Save some taxi numbers into your phone too, so no one is left stranded when the night winds down.

Full stomachs

Why waste cash on a nasty post-pub kebab when you can sort out something truly tasty before you go out?

Inviting friends round for food is a great opportunity to chat about the evening ahead and get it all planned out.

Grabbing proper food is good news for your stomach too, since eating food before or during the evening helps to slow down the absorption of alcohol. This means you’re more likely to make it to the end of the night.  Stuck for some simple recipes to feed your friends? See how these quick culinary delights go down.

Some soft drinks

If you’re off to a party then make space in your bag for a small water or soft drink bottle.

If you decide to drink alcohol, choosing non-alcoholic ‘spacers’ between rounds will help you stay on top of your game. Water and soft drinks are great for rehydrating too, which is especially essential if you’re planning to hit the dancefloor later! Remember that some pubs and clubs will provide free drinking water, so it won’t cost anything to make sure that you and your mates stay sharp.

Each other!

Everyone knows that it’s not the pub or club you visit or party you hit that makes a night special – it’s the group of friends you go with.

That’s why it’s important to be the perfect wingman and make sure the night takes off right. Remember to look out for friends who might be heading towards a bad time. Be the angel who listens to their problems, makes sure they’re safe, and are not overdoing it on the booze.

Stick together and make sure no one heads off home alone and you’ll have played a big part in making it the perfect night out.
