8 June 2010 Hoof It! kicks off in Glasgow

Monday saw the start of the Drinkaware Hoof It! tour in Glasgow and even though Scotland aren't participating in the World Cup, there's certainly no shortage of football fans in the city!

The 13-strong Hoof it! team, comprising football freestylers, Ashley the host and the support crew, kicked things off at the city's Powerleague centre, along with local legend and former Scottish footballer of the year Paul Elliott.

On day one though, nerves were very much the order of the day before things got started.

Why nerves you ask?

Well, after months of planning and with 10,000 footballs waiting for brand spanking new owners, it was a bit like the first day at a new school for most of the Hoof it! team. Ashley House, host of the freestyle roadshow, explains: " We were all pretty nervous at the start of the tour - everyone had worked so hard in the build-up and the logistics of getting 10,000 footballs, three freestylers, a pop-up stage and a series of football heroes around the country in a week is pretty full on and now was finally the time to put everything into action.

“Thankfully, it all went to plan and the crowd at the Powerleague really got into it. Paul Elliott is held in great affection here - at least in the green half of the city! - and lots of people wanted a chat with him and for him to sign their Drinkaware football. We're all just really excited now and hope the reaction is as keen around the rest of the country, starting with Newcastle tomorrow."

Monday was a busy day for the freestylers as well, long before the 6pm start at Powerleague. Despite a late night for Craig - who after a mix-up with his train had to jump on a coach from Manchester, arriving in Glasgow at 2.30am in the morning - the boys were up with the lark to cause a bit of football-related mischief around town.

Craig, Francis and John re-enacted one of the most famous movie montages of all time on a set of steps in central Glasgow, by recreating Sylvester Stallone's gallop up a flight of stairs in the Rocky movie. But being the talented lads they are, they did so with an almost super-human - or super-footballing - difference. Watch it here!

So all in all, Glasgow was a pretty tiring but fun day, with a great reaction from the city's amateur footballers, who took hundreds of Hoof it! balls away with them for their summer kickabouts. Next stop Newcastle!Remember to
