12 June 2010 Dean Saunders scores in Cardiff

The start of the World Cup has arrived, and so has the sunshine! Although the greatest show on earth was kicking off over 6,000 miles away, the South African sun was shining over Wales as the team woke up in Cardiff.

We were also excited about meeting legendary Welsh footballer, Dean Saunders, the Hoof It! Ambassador for Cardiff.  And we weren’t the only ones!

Making the most of the blue skies, our freestyling trio set out to the Millennium Stadium in the heart of Cardiff.  In homage to Wales’s rugby heritage, John, Francis and Craig tried their skills with a different shaped ball – the oval variety!  Never shying away from a challenge, Francis attempted a rugby themed stunt, which we’ll have on here in the next couple of days.

Hosting the Cardiff leg of the tour was British Gas in Cardiff’s Callaghan Square where we received a warm Welsh welcome.  Star of the show was former Welsh striker, manager and all round football hero, Dean Saunders.

The queue for the Drinkaware balls and Dean’s signature was snaking around the building as hundreds of employees clamoured to meet this local legend. Back to round balls, the freestylers kept the crowds entertained as they waited to chat to Dean.  A real winner!

Mid afternoon, we boarded the minibus to head to London for the final leg of the tour. Three countries in as many days, we were tired and the Londoners among the team were looking forward to a relaxing night at home.

The team’s attention soon turned to the last day of the tour and of course England’s first game against USA.  One prediction from the bus: 3-1 to England with Landon Donovan to score the first goal.  We are looking forward to finding out!
