11 June 2010 Steve Claridge hoofs it!

Thursday morning and it was time to go to Britain’s second city, Birmingham.  Home to three Premier league football teams, the Bullring and more canals than Venice, we were excited about the day ahead.

Sleeping, eating and working our way down the M6 on our ‘luxury’ mini-bus (now a little more worse for wear than it was at the start of the week),  we arrived in Brum with a rare few hours to spare before the freestyle event kicked off.  Let loose on Birmingham, the freestylers rested their arms and legs with a cinema trip while event host Ashley and the support team found an internet café to catch up on life at the office.

Today’s venue was the Powerleague centre in Aston. It was outdoors unlike the previous two nights so we had to contend with wind, drizzle and cold temperatures  - a  typical British summer day you might say - but the Hoof It! Team were in the groove. With the help of driver Mario’s muscles, we performed our well-practised unload and set-up routine in record time.

Former Birmingham City player and BBC pundit, Steve Claridge donned the Hoof It! shirt today to give away hundreds of Drinkaware footballs and sign autographs for excited Blues fans. Check out what Steve had to say about England’s World Cup chances and his career highlights.

Hundreds of free footballs and some impressive tricks later, we jumped in the bus to Cardiff as the sun set on day four. After dining in a motorway service station, the team watched a DVD in our now favourite seats.  Ah, life on the road! Tired but cheerful, we checked into our Cardiff hotel for some well earned beauty sleep.

It had been a long day and it will be interesting to see whether Wales’s World Cup fever will be any bigger than Scotland’s when we hit Cardiff tomorrow. D acha Lloegr! (That’s ‘Come on England’ in Welsh - something we’re only brave enough to say on here!)
