Sophie will be posting her thoughts and experiences of uni every week during her first year to give a frank portrayal of university life and the role alcohol plays in it. This week she celebrates her birthday with a house party!
This week simply felt like a waiting game to go home. Friday was pretty good, my classmates and I were dragged around more art galleries than we have fingers with a mid pub stop in Bethnal Green. It made me have a much more positive attitude towards London, but I just couldn’t wait to spend my birthday with my friends back in Romford!
And to my surprise I had a surprise party! I was so happy; I only expected to spend the night at the pub! A MASSIVE THANKS to Courtney and Bobby whom convinced my parents to loan their home to a bunch of teenagers for the night (my dad is a tough one to crack)!
Considering it was my big day of course I had a drink. I’m not sure how much exactly? I hope even those who drove and didn’t drink still had a good time! I definitely did!
Luckily there were no severe cases of terrible drunks, oh, maybe one? My friend Dick turned up, shouted happy birthday and fell asleep. Over breakfast he declared that he couldn’t remember a thing.
One of my best friends, Sam, travelled all the way from Portsmouth too, which was fantastic.
I stuck to my usual vodka and diet coke as I definitely learnt my lesson last time that not much else agrees with me. A friend bought me a bottle of champagne; so to save my skin I shook it up and shared the bottle around, as I know that if I'd of drank more than half a glass, my birthday would of ended abruptly.
By about 12 O’clock I was just drinking water, as I knew I could stay merry for the night and not go overboard. Plus a bit of vegan birthday cake, Snack-a-Jacks & vegan fairy cakes which all soaked everything up quite nicely.
I love going to bed after a good night but feeling sober. I much prefer for the alcohol to wear off, as there’s nothing worse than a spinning room.
I’ve been so spoilt this year! I got some fantastic presents and I’m just so grateful for everything! So this week has definitely been a good one!
