A 'Fresher Perspective' blog: First year, done!

Introduction

Sophie will be giving a frank portrayal of university life and the role alcohol plays in it. This week Sophie is in a state of a shock that her first year is already over!

So my first year is already up, it’s terrifying how fast it went. Surprisingly I’m not as broke as most of my friends, which probably comes down to the fact that I don’t drink quite as much as them.

Plus women definitely take advantage of the opposite sex. Male students must be in a much tighter financial state after flashing the cash that they borrowed to buy women drinks. I always feel guilty when a guy buys me a drink and off I go uninterested. But I’m sure they’re not emotionally scarred or anything.

I’ve also been taking advantage of London’s collection of private views. For example, Last week I attended one at the Curzon cinema in Soho, sponsored by Havana rum, taking full advantage of the free rum and cokes. Then I went on to the nearest pub, knowing that I’d probably saved myself a fair amount, especially considering the ridiculous city prices.

I think my cash is normally wasted on the after drink munch, I usually find myself gorging on falafel in Maoz, which is extremely messy and an unattractive sight!

I’ve also had a few nights in my hometown, I don’t have to worry about catching the last train home, and therefore I usually find myself drunker, living up to the Essex stereotype probably.

I vaguely remember falling backwards onto the floor, I can’t remember much from that night after arriving late and playing catch up. It’s a vicious circle and I seem to never learn, maybe I will by the time September rolls around and the workload gets more hardcore.
