Derek Lewis - Chairman

Derek Lewis is chairman of Protocol associates, a leading provider of services to schools and colleges in the UK

Among his other activities he is chairman of The Drinkaware Trust, a trustee of WRVS, a pro-chancellor of the University of Essex, an adviser to the London Business School and a director of JHP Training.

His business career began with Ford Motor Company, where he worked in the UK, Germany and the USA, followed by the Imperial Group before joining Granada Group initially as finance director and ultimately as chief executive. Having been closely involved in the creation of satellite television and Sky, he led the team that created UK Gold Television, becoming non-executive chairman when he was appointed director-general of Her Majesty’s Prison Service in England and Wales in 1993 and principal policy adviser on prisons to the Home Secretary.

Following the Prison Service, he worked with the cable television industry on the launch of digital services and was chairman of Sunsail International until its acquisition by First Choice plc. In 1998 he was appointed chairman of Patientline and led the company’s flotation in March 2001.

Professor David Foxcroft, School of Health and Social Care, Oxford Brookes University

A chartered psychologist and prevention scientist with expertise in the prevention of alcohol misuse, David has advised the British Government and the World Health Organisation on alcohol misuse prevention for young people.

Nick Grant, Head of Legal Services, Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd

In addition to leading the Sainsbury’s legal team, Nick plays an industry role as Chair of the Retail of Alcohol Standards Group (RASG). RASG was set up by leading retailers in 2005 to spread best practice in preventing the sale of alcohol to under 18s. The group has succeeded in spreading the Think 21 approach to compliance across the retail sector and has pioneered community based approaches to youth alcohol issues. Nick is also the BRC representative on the EU Task Force on Youth Aspects of Alcohol.

Benet Slay, Managing Director, DIAGEO Great Britain

Diageo is the world's leading premium drinks business. Benet has an extensive commercial background in consumer goods both in GB and abroad, has been MD for Diageo GB including being a council member of the Portman Group and the British Beer and Pub Association, and is now responsible for Diageo's Northern Europe business.

Dr Michael Wilks - President, Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME)

Michael works as a forensic physician with the Metropolitan Police, and is chairman of the Trustees of RAPT (the Rehabilitation of Addicted Prisoners Trust). He has been a general medical practitioner (GP) for over 35 years and has spent the last 15 years advising on the risk of alcohol on society and the individual.

Dr Nick Sheron - Head of Clinical Hepatology, Southampton General Hospital

Nick has been consultant physician in liver disease since 1993. He also runs an active clinically based research programme at the University of Southampton, in the area of alcohol-related problems.

Jason Stockwood- former Managing Director International, Match.com

Match.com is the world's biggest online dating site. Jason joined Match.com in March 2007 from online travel brand Travelocity where he was Managing Director of Travelocity Business EMEA. He formerly ran the European portfolio of Match.com’s business.

Carolyn Bradley - UK Marketing Director, TESCO Stores Limited

Carolyn is responsible for added value foods at TESCO including Beers, Wines and Spirits and Chilled and Bakery divisions.

Professor Gill Valentine, researcher

Based at the School of Geography, University of Leeds, Gill’s research areas have included food and drink consumption cultures, social identities, citizenship and belonging, children and parenting, and research methods. In 2006 she co-authored the research paper, Drunk and disorderly: alcohol, urban life and public space.
